In January 2024, the ENS Protocol registered 39.8k new .eth domains, bringing the total to 2.1 million. The protocol generated revenue of $1.3 million during this period, all of which was allocated to the ENS DAO. The number of Ethereum account holders with at least one ENS name increased by 33.9k, totaling 818k. There were 31.7k primary ENS names set, making the overall count 737k. Additionally, 8k new avatar records were created, reaching a cumulative total of 149k.

ENS Labs announced its official account on Warpcast, which is a Farcaster client. Farcaster is a sufficiently decentralized social network, built on Ethereum, that functions as a public platform similar to Twitter and Reddit. Farcaster integetrates ENS in its namespace as part of its identity layer Users retain ownership of their accounts and relationships with other users, and they are free to migrate between different applications. ENS announced its participation in ETHDenver, scheduled from February 29th to March 3rd. The ENS Labs team, along with the ENS Working Group Stewards, will attend to engage with the community in real life, with various activities planned to enhance the ETHDenver experience. ENS is also reintroducing IYK enabled ENS Cards at the event, allowing attendees to print their ENS names and avatars with custom designs. ENS announced a strategic partnership with GoDaddy, the world's largest domain registrar, to facilitate the integration of DNS domains into the ENS ecosystem. This collaboration aims to make it effortless for GoDaddy's vast customer base to link their DNS domains with Ethereum addresses. The initiative leverages the recent launch of Gasless DNSSEC, which permits the verification of DNS records without incurring transaction fees, thereby enabling DNS domains to be used within ENS at no additional cost. This development is poised to enhance user experience by allowing the use of familiar domain names in place of complex Ethereum addresses across various web3 applications. They are considering whether to integrate with an existing Ethereum Layer 2 network or to launch their own in-house Layer 2, termed "the identity layer." Patch Wallet simplifies crypto transactions by integrating wallet addresses with social media handles and identifiers using ENS. It's a "zero onboarding" wallet, requiring no setup for users with email, phone, GitHub, Twitter, or Farcaster accounts. By linking wallets to familiar user IDs, it streamlines the user experience, enabling transactions through familiar identifiers. For example, a Twitter handle followed by ".twitter.usr.id" can serve as a proxy for a blockchain wallet address, potentially lowering barriers for new users. β 01.30.24

Uniswap has introduced a new feature that allows users to send tokens directly from the Uniswap interface using ENS names. Utopia Labs introduced a new service called offramps.eth, a service streamlining USDC to USD conversion and bank transfers. Users send USDC to the offramps.eth ENS address to initiate transactions. It offers a convenient alternative to costly off-ramp widgets (up to 5% fees) or slower processes through centralized exchanges. With just two clicks, offramps.eth promises a more efficient experience, charging a flat fee of 1.5% and delivering funds in 1-3 days. The Meta-Governance Working Group's budget for Term 5 Q1/Q2 2024 is organized into several categories. These include:
Working Group Steward Compensation (294,000 USDC): Funds allocated for compensating the stewards and secretary of the Working Group.
Governance Reimbursements (5 ETH): Allocated for fee reimbursements and initiatives aimed at reducing friction in the governance process.
Tooling (130,000 USDC): For developing interfaces and dashboards to enhance the governance process.
DAO Sponsorship (5000 USDC): Funds for sponsoring DAO-specific events.
Discretionary (30,000 USDC, 5 ETH): Funds distributed at the discretion of stewards for new initiatives and governance experiments.

Hedgey, a token infrastructure software for onchain teams, showcased their innovative software focused on Token Vesting Contracts and Delegation. The demo, led by Lindsey Winder, provided insights into the platform's capability to front-load governance, allowing the release of tokens over a scheduled timeline while still enabling future token holders to participate actively in governance. The demonstration outlined the user-friendly interface, which guides users through selecting a token, choosing a network, setting revocable status, and establishing vesting timelines. Additionally, Hedgey highlighted a feature that allows recipients of tokens the option to delegate their voting rights to another wallet address. The Meta-Governance Working Group has chosen Lemma Solutions, to collaborate on drafting the ENS DAO Bylaws. The timeline involves conducting a gap analysis, crafting the initial draft for feedback, refining it based on community input, and then sharing the revised version for further feedback. The Bylaws will undergo review and comment ahead of a social vote for adoption, with the first round of social feedback expected to be ready for review in a few weeks. Grants (150,000 USDC, 30 ETH): The grants category supports projects and individuals contributing to the ENS ecosystem. Grants are typically awarded retroactively based on demonstrated contributions, fostering innovation and development within the community.
Audit Support (100,000 USDC): Funds in this category are dedicated to conducting audits aimed at improving the security and functionality of open-source ENS projects. These audits primarily focus on protocol-level enhancements, ensuring the reliability and robustness of the ecosystem.

Describing itself as the "GoDaddy for Web3 with a better database," NameFi aims to streamline the process of transferring DNS ownership and modernize related protocols. The lite client now offers easy, one-time secure record storage on Web2 servers. They maintain their pro client at app.namesys. Additionally, they launched IPNS.eth, a free, open-source IPNS pinning service for secure publishing on IPFS. NameSys also unveiled Dynamic Avatars enabled by offchain resolvers, allowing avatar changes without manual updates or transactions. This feature is set to launch within a week, showcasing the benefits of offchain records for ENS.
