In December 2023, ENS continued its growth with 23.4k new .eth domain registrations, bringing the current total to 2.1m names. Protocol revenue reached $1.36m for the month, with all proceeds benefiting the ENS DAO. The number of new Ethereum accounts with at least one ENS name rose by 18k, culminating in a total of 800k. Primary ENS names set during this period tallied at 16.8k, contributing to an overall count of 701k. Additionally, 4.6k new avatar records were established, rounding up the total to 143k.

ENS Labs has implemented updates to the ENS contracts, deploying them to the Holesky testnet, in light of the Goerli testnet being deprecated. The updates include new addresses for core components such as the ENS Registry, Base Registrar Implementation, ETH Registrar Controller, Public Resolver, Name Wrapper, Universal Resolver, and Reverse Registrar. Developers are advised to use discovery mechanisms provided by ENS to avoid interfacing with outdated contracts, and it's highlighted that direct use of addresses for upgradeable contracts is discouraged due to the likelihood of future changes. The latest deployment information and main addresses for Holesky and Sepolia, as of the 27th of January, have been detailed on the forum. — 1.26.24

EP5.1 has been successfully executed, and a new version of the DNSSEC oracle and DNS registrar, which enables 'gasless DNSSEC' functionality, is now live on the Ethereum mainnet. This marks a significant milestone for ENS, as it allows the use of DNS names within ENS without requiring on-chain transactions. Smart Layer, a programmable blockchain-based service network that enables complex token logic execution and integration has integrated ENS' CCIP-read (ERC-3668) with their Smart Cats executable NFTs. This integration has led to over 20,000 Smart Cat holders claiming an ENS subname. "Onthis.xyz" enhances Ethereum transactions by enabling the use of human-readable smart contracts for a variety of actions, including bridging, swapping, staking, and minting, directly via user wallets. The platform simplifies the process by allowing users to execute transactions through specific ENS domains such as "toarbitrum.eth." These transactions are automated to perform the desired actions—for instance, bridging to the Arbitrum network—and the resulting ETH is seamlessly transferred to the user's intended wallet. — 1.25.24

It outlines the endowment's financial performance, DAO metrics, strategies and implementation, risk management, and community engagement. This concise summary captures the essential facts and figures to provide a clear understanding of the endowment's achievements and activities in 2023: — 1.24.24
Financial Performance: Accumulated $1.06 million in revenue with an average APY of 3.28%. December 2023 figures showed $70.89M in non-custodial assets under management, 99.1% capital utilization, a projected APY of 4.33%, and expected annual revenue of $3.07M.
DAO Metrics: The ENS DAO reported $29.8M in operational revenues and $8.9M in expenses. The DAO reserves ended the year at $98.2 million, indicating an 11-year operational runway dedicated to enhancing the ENS system.
Strategies and Implementation: Utilized the Zodiac Module for trust-minimized management, diversified ETH into stablecoins and USD-neutral strategies, and adapted strategies to market dynamics.
Risk Management: Developed a detailed risk assessment framework and set up a comprehensive monitoring system.
Reporting and Community Engagement: Maintained regular reporting, introduced a Dune Analytics dashboard for governance transparency, and engaged in community discussions.

The ENS Developer Stream has been activated. Following the successful completion of the voting and execution phases, the process is now entering its final stages. The Large Grants milestone presentation outlined the progress of the Ethereum Follow Protocol (EFP), an on-chain social protocol for ENS accounts functioning on both L1 and L2. With 36 launch partners, the project was scheduled for a mid-Q1 launch and has an open-source repository available on GitHub.
The EFP Indexer is an off-chain program designed to listen to on-chain events/data and mirror it off-chain to be efficient for web applications. It also provides an Indexer API for accessing data such as followers and blocks. The team is developing their own version of an ENS metadata service to handle increased loads and parse data as the ENS ecosystem expands. Upcoming steps include finishing the web app development, along with testnet testing and refining. — 1.18.24

The Public Goods Working Group is currently investigating two potential funding initiatives: — 1.25.24
The first is an "Optimism style RPGF training program" titled EasyRetroPGF, which was established by Kevin Owocki. The platform is chain and platform agnostic and is designed to facilitate the launch of RPGF rounds. Information and discussions about the program are directed to the EasyRetroPGF.xyz Training Program, which is currently in the information gathering stage.
The second initiative is a partnership with Giveth for the "Giveth x ENS builder’s rounds," aimed at funding public goods with teams of fewer than five people. The first round offers a 10k matching pool and will utilize Optimism for the dispersal of funds, with the flexibility to adjust the matching pool based on the quality and number of applicants. Fundraising can be conducted on any chain, and applicants are required to fill out a form detailing budget requests, proof of public good, milestones, and team information. Projects must be created on Giveth to get verified, and Giveth will hold meetings with Public Goods to discuss the applicants.
